J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor stands as a pinnacle of the choral repertoire. From the jubilant opening of the Kyrie and the exuberance of the Gloria to the serene transcendence of the Sanctus and the radiance of the final Dona nobis pacem, this is music of astonishing breadth. Each movement offers fresh wonders, from intricate fugues to heartfelt arias, and the whole is unified by an overarching sense of devotion and awe.
Opus 48, together with the incredible talents of the Musical and Amicable Society orchestra and rising star soloists, brings this monumental score to the splendour of Oxford’s Sheldonian Theatre.
